‘ഹലോ, ആരാണ്?’
‘ഹലോ ഹലോ… ഹലോ!’ ഉസ്മാന് ഒന്നു ചെറുതായി കൂക്കി.
ഉസ്മാന്റെ ഫോണിലേയ്ക്കു് തിരിച്ചറിയുവാനാകാത്ത ഏതോ നമ്പറില് നിന്നു് ആദ്യത്തെ കോള് വരുന്നതു മൂന്നോനാലോ മാസങ്ങള്ക്കു മുമ്പാകണം. ഹോട്ടലിലെ ജോലിക്കിടെ അവന് ലൂപ്പ്സെറ്റ് ചെവിയില് കൊരുത്തിട്ടു ഹലോയെന്നു ശബ്ദിച്ചു. മറുപടി കേള്ക്കാതെയായപ്പോള് അവന് ഒരു ചെറിയ കൂക്കലിനോളം ആ വാക്കു് ആവര്ത്തിക്കുകയും പിന്നെയും മറുപടി ഇല്ലാതായപ്പോള് ഫോണ് കട്ട് ചെയ്യുകയുമാണുണ്ടായതു്. അടുത്ത ദിവസങ്ങളിലും ഇതു് ആവര്ത്തിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.
ഉസ്മാന് ചെവി കൂര്പ്പിച്ചു, ഒച്ചയും അനക്കവുമില്ലാത്ത കലവറയില് ചെന്നുനിന്നു സംസാരിക്കുവാന് ശ്രമിച്ചു. [...]
